Gbarpolu Police Detain Blind Man For Alleged Corruption

By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent

BOPOLU, August 26 (LINA) –Police in Bopolu, Gbarpolu County have arrested and briefly detained a blind man on allegation of duping the Gbarpolu County Disabled Organization (GCDO) of over L$500.

However, Joseph Kolleh was later released from detention when the president of the Hope In God Association of the Blind (HIGAR), Johnson Dorbor, intervened and paid the amount through Mobile Money.

Kolleh, who is Secretary-General of GCDO, met his ordeal when the president of the organization, Mama Korpo, filed a complaint against him to the police Monday, according to the police charge sheet.

The charge sheet indicated that Korpo complained that Kolleh, without authorization, collected on behalf of the organization the amount from some individuals and failed to report same to her office.

Kolleh, who earlier denied collecting the money, admitted committing the act during police investigation, the charge sheet stated.

According to the charge sheet, it was at that juncture that Kolleh was detained until the money was refunded.
