MOE Assures Young Liberians Of Vocational Training

By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA

MONROVIA, August 17(LINA) –The Ministry of Education (MOE) has assured it is committed to providing technical and vocational training to young Liberians to help them secure “safe and productive” employment.

The Ministry said during the next two years, it will develop a National Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Curriculum based on a vigorous market analysis, develop training package for TVET trainers and conduct a pilot training for the first batch of trainers.

In a nine-count Priority Document geared towards improving Liberia’s Education Sector, the MOE said it will rehabilitate existing facilities at the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) and equip other multilateral high schools across the country to implement the TVET Program.

The Liberia News Agency quotes the document as saying the program will cost an estimated US$2.9 million.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has observed that a large number of young people in Liberia lacking training or work remains one of the consequences of the civil war which disrupted the education of a generation of students.
