Plans Underway To Create Media Commission, Says Senator Wesseh

MONROVIA, August 14 (LINA) –River Gee County Senator Conmany B. Wesseh has disclosed plans for the creation of a Media Commission.
He made the disclosure Friday at the launch of a rally intended to restore the University of Liberia radio Lux FM 106.6 to full operation held in the auditorium on University’s main campus on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.
Wesseh said when created, the commission will swiftly address media-related issues, citing the National Chronicle prolonged case with the Government of Liberia as an example.
“We can do better when we have a Media Commission; we cannot continue to go to court every time something happens only to be rescued by the courts,” Senator Wesseh emphasized.
He noted that it was saddening to note that the station on which he monitored the popular late night security alert show and which made life-saving contributions during the Ebola crisis in the country, had been gutted by fire.
“When Ebola came, this radio station was the leader on the provision of information on Ebola and how to save lives, and so it was a big loss for all of us,” he asserted.
He then made an initial contribution of L$10,000 towards the resuscitation of the university radio station.
Lux FM is the training arm of the Mass Communications Department of the University of Liberia that affords broadcast journalism students the opportunity to practice what is being taught them.
