Supt. Raises Alarm Over Prolonged Darkness In Tubmanburg

By David Pamas Seede, LINA Bomi County Correspondent

TUBMANBURG, August 12 (LINA) -Tubmanburg, the capital of Bomi County, has almost a year now been in darkness due to hitches in accessing funds from resources in the county’s accounts.

Superintendent Samuel Brown said the darkness was prompted by lack of money to buy fuel for the generator given the city by the management of Blue Lake, a mineral water company operating in the county.

He told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that fuel cost for the generator was covered by Blue Lake until the machine was turned over to the leadership of the city.

According to Brown, the county has in its account a total of US$1.8 million from the County Development Fund (CDF), but said the money cannot be used because the Legislative Caucus has put a hold on the disbursement of the funds until further adjustments are made.

He indicated that until then, residents of the City of Tubmanburg will continue to live with alternative or self-provided sources of power which, he noted, seems cost-intensive, especially for businesses operating in the city.
