24 Get GOL Scholarships To Study In China
By Decontee M Wesseh, LINA

MONROVIA, August 10 (LINA) – The Ministry of Education (MOE) has provided scholarships to 24 Liberians to study in China.

Speaking Monday at the Ministry in Sinkor, Education Minister George Warner said the scholarships are intended to improve the knowledge and skills of the students to help rebuild the country after studies.

“Students should study in the way that their skills will be marketable, even if they are to work in the private sector,” Warner emphasized.

The Education Minister urged Liberians to take advantage of jobs in the private sector, because most Liberians are not found in that area.

“These scholarships are not Chinese government scholarships actually; the GOL is paying for these scholarships and nothing is for free,” Warner explained.

According to him, GOL allocated the money from the budget following discussions with the Chinese Government.

“The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the students says when government educates you, you are to come back to serve government for at least two years to meet up with the obligations of the MOU,” Warner said.

Meanwhile, Warner is warning the beneficiaries to put up their best behavior while in China pursuing their education at Chinese universities.
