Six Die, Several Wounded In Monrovia-Gbarnga Highway Accident

GBARNGA, August 6 (LINA) - Authorities at the Phebe Hospital in Bong County have confirmed at least six deaths in the Wednesday, August 5, tragic motor accident involving a bus belonging to the National Transit Authority (NTA) in the Zeanzue area of the Gbarnga-Monrovia highway.
Eye witnesses and some passengers who survived the accident told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) that the driver apparently lost control of the steering few minutes after crossing the Zeanzue Bridge, leaving the bus to summersault several times in a ditch.
Although the Bong County Police Detachment is yet to establish the number of passengers that were onboard the NTA bus, several persons, including women and children, sustained injuries and are currently admitted at the Phebe Hospital in Suakoko, Bong County.
Some of the passengers told LINA that the driver was running excessively before the accident occurred.
Liberian musician Levi Zianaway is one of those who survived the accident and it is reported that he underwent an operation Wednesday evening at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Bong County Police detachment was on Wednesday evening seen removing goods and other belongings of passengers on board the bus.
This brings to two the number of recent accidents along the Gbarnga-Totota belt of the highway in less than two months with several deaths reported.
In July this year, six persons died in a tragic motor accident between Kandakai Town and Gbatala while on board a taxi en route from Ganta when it collided with another taxi coming from Monrovia.
