Over 1,000 Residents Of Bahn Face Eviction
By Wellington G. Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

BAHN CITY, August 5 (LINA) - The Project Management Committee (PMC) of Nimba County has told heads of over 400 homes in Bahn City, which are considered situated on roadways in the city, to leave the areas or face eviction.

The county authority has decided to layout major streets and avenues in the city and has brought in earth-moving equipment to carry out the exercise, something that has generated criticisms and resistance from those to be affected.

The affected citizens are requesting the Nimba County Legislative Caucus to give them resettlement packages and to reduce the number of streets to be laid out in the city.

However, the Caucus on Sunday joined the local authority in an awareness forum to give reasons for the demolition of homes in major roadways void of compensation.

In an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Bahn Tuesday, Nimba County Development Superintendent Dorr Cooper said every disagreement ever raised in Bahn over the upgrading of roads in that city has been resolved.

“The Bahn streets layout exercise is expected to kick off next week,” Cooper emphasized.

Senator Thomas Grupee, however, noted that the Caucus will consider the compensation of affected residents of Bahn at the next County Council Sitting.
