Malayeanin Town Gets First Hand Pump In 10 Years
By Philip T. Singbah, LINA Bong County Correspondent

MALAYEANIN, BONG COUNTY, August 4 (LINA) - Residents of Malayeain Town in Zota District, Bong County say the construction of the first hand pump in the town since its existence has brought relief to them.

Since its establishment more than 10 years ago, residents of the town had fetched water from ponds and creeks for drinking and other domestic purposes before the intervention of the US-based charity Mission to Liberia.

Speaking at the dedication program on Sunday, several citizens described the intervention of Mission to Liberia as timely, emphasizing that the construction of the pump  is the best thing to ever happen in the town.

The Malayeain citizens said not only will the pump reduce the hours they walk to fetch water, it will also bring an end to water-borne diseases they contract as a result of drinking and using unsafe water.

For his part, the implementer of the project, David Fenkpolu, said his institution was deeply saddened by the fact that the people of Malayeanin lacked such a basic necessity of life, prompting quick intervention.

Fenkpolu said the organization is committed to rescuing situations like the Malayeanin case, which is a major component of its social responsibility to communities.
