Bartekwa Troubled By Animals On Somalia Drive
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA
MONROVIA, August 4(LINA) - Grand Kru County Representative Numene Bartekwa has alarmed that the constant movement of cattle is obstructing the free flow of traffic and movement of commuters on a daily basis on the Somalia Drive, outside Monrovia.
Bartekwa noted that institutions and individuals engaged in the management and sale of animals, especially cows at the Slaughter House near the Jamaica Road Community, usually put them on the road in their numbers to take them to and fro Johnsonville for feeding without regard to the safety of people.
He said the situation often causes traffic jam and panic among commuters and community dwellers when they are escaping the cows.
Bartekwa’s statements were contained in a communication to House Speaker J. Alex Tyler dated August 4, 2015, in which he craved the indulgence of Plenary to invite the Ministers of Agriculture and Justice as well as the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police to explain why they cannot regulate the movement of the animals.
Following the reading of the communication in Session on Tuesday, the Body sent it to the House Committees on Health and Agriculture for review and recommendations with the mandate to report in two weeks.
