Nimba Caucus To Intervene In Planned Demolition of 400 Homes
SANNIQUELLIE, August 2 (LINA) - The Nimba County Legislative Caucus says it will intervene in the disagreement in Bahn over a plan by the County Project Management Committee (PMC) to demolish about 400 homes to build streets in that city.
About a month ago, the Assistant Superintendent for Development, Dorr Cooper, announced a plan to build streets in Bahn for the first time.
Since the declaration, a feasibility study followed by a layout survey has earmarked about 400 homes to be demolished to facilitate the construction of the streets.
According to the City Major, Madam Angie Dopoe, multiple streets are expected to be constructed in the city in what she described as “a checkerboard design.”
However, some affected residents have raised contention that the new design of the city, if implemented, would cause more damage as compared to the old design carved in the 1980s.
Local authorities, however, say the old design suggested was verbal and never documented.
The former Chairman of the Nimba Legislative Caucus, Thomas Grupee, says the Caucus will convene a meeting on Sunday with residents to resolve the issue to pave the way for the construction of streets in Bahn city.
