Maryland, River Gee, Grand Gedeh To Host Next Independence Day

MONROVIA, July 30 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has announced that Maryland, River Gee and Grand Gedeh counties will jointly host the 169th Independence Anniversary celebration next year.

Making the announcement, she urged the three counties to begin preparations immediately and “not to wait until June of next year.”

She indicated that government will support the construction of some of the facilities in preparation for the anniversary; but also encouraged citizens of the three counties to initiate individual development projects.

The Liberian leader reiterated that the spirit of rotating the Independence Anniversary is not only for government to bring development to the people but to inspire the people from host counties to go back home and do something for their people.

At the same time, the Liberian leader has designated Rivercess County as host of the 170thIndependence Anniversary in July 2017, the final year of the current administration.

She noted that t Rivercess has ample time as enormous work needs to be done in order to host a successful celebration. “We want to see the county transformed by the time we reach them.”

President Sirleaf thanked the authorities and people of Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties for the warm reception, cooperation and excellent hospitality received, including the largest number of diplomatic representation to the country.

On the impression the diplomats left with, she said, “They all left from here very pleased; they had a very good time and I’m sure that this is going to strengthen our relationship with the countries which they represent.

She expressed appreciation to all Liberians, most especially political leaders, NGOs, religious leaders, among others, who made it especially to the Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service in Barclayville, Grand Kru County, using their own resources amidst the difficult circumstances.
