VP Boakai Urges Graduates To Exhibit Patriotism
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA

MONROVIA, July 29 (LINA) -Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has reminded graduates of the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU) that it is their responsibility to challenge government officials to perform the duties for which they were elected.

Boakai said no matter where the graduates stand politically, they are needed to participate in discussions about the future that the current generation and generations to come will share.

The Vice President, however, warned that such discussions should never come at the expense of bringing disunity to the country or resorting to violence as the first option.

Vice President Boakai made the call in his commencement address Wednesday at the 15th Commencement Convocation of the AMEU at the Winner’s Chapel in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, where over 300 students graduated from various disciplines.

He also underscored the need for the graduates to exhibit a high degree of patriotism in their endeavors, noting that patriotism is about building the courage to strengthen the nation’s democracy by making impact in the community.

“From starting a clean-up campaign to establishing a study class for the youth; you can do something that touches someone’s life. True patriotism is about that deep love and devotion to Liberia because it is the only place you can never ever be deported from,” he added.
