Pres. Sirleaf Hails All For Successful ‘July 26’ Celebration

By Wilfred Gortor, LINA

GREENVILLE, July 27 (LINA) - President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has congratulated all Liberians and well-wishers for efforts exerted in enabling the nation to hold a successful 168th independence anniversary celebration.

President Sirleaf said the thousands of Liberians and well-wishers who gathered in Greenville, Sinoe County and Barclayville, Grand Kru County to commemorate the nation’s anniversary testify to the contagious nature of unity.

The Liberian leader said such unity also confirms that the independence program jointly held by Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties was also a gathering to celebrate Liberia’s strong foundation for national development.

Making special remarks at the official ceremony in observance of Liberia’s 168th independence anniversary in Greenville, Sinoe County President Sirleaf urged Liberians to always coexist in the spirit of unity and buttress government’s effort in fostering national development.

She urged Liberians to be positive in their engagement with government as well as speak well about the good undertakings that government has endeavored to give to the people of Liberia.

The Liberian leader then recounted the nation’s difficult period of 2014 during which more than 4,000 Liberians died as the result of the deadly Ebola virus which also plunged the nation into a protracted health crisis.

According to her, it was the result of the courage and strength exhibited by all Liberians and partners that rid the country of the menacing Ebola virus.

She thanked the international and local partners, health workers as well as the regional body, ECOWAS, among others for the “unprecedented support,” given to Liberia during the health crisis.

She stressed that despite all of the difficulties the nation went through it has not thawed the country’s developmental goals.
