Bartekwa Introduces Youth Service Agency Bill
By Hilary Vasco Wiagbe, LINA

MONROVIA, July 14 (LINA) - Grand Kru County District 2 Representative Numene Bartekwa has submitted a bill to create the Liberia National Youth Service Agency (LNYSA) to the House of Representatives for enactment into law.

Bartekwa noted that when enacted, the Government of Liberia will put into place a framework through which young Liberians desirous of acquiring undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education but lack the means can be given scholarships to further their education under a contractual agreement.

He said in a letter to House Speaker J. Alex Tyler that under such an agreement, beneficiaries of the scholarships upon completion would be assigned by the agency in any area of service need to render national service for two to three years with compensation.

Bartekwa indicated that after rendering the national service, the individuals will have the opportunity to take up employment of their choice.

According to him, the bill is also intended to facilitate the process of acquiring professional personnel to be assigned at government social service delivery institutions which, he pointed out, are currently a serious challenge to Liberia.

After the communication was read in Session on Tuesday, July 14, Plenary forwarded it to the House Committees on Youth and Sports, Education, Ways and Means, and Judiciary for review to report within two weeks.
