GBARNGA, July 12 (LINA) -The Ministry of Education has deposited US$4,022,000 in the accounts of 2,500 public and community schools across Liberia to address some of the pressing basic needs of the schools.

Disclosing this to the Liberia News Agency in Gbarnga Saturday, the former Coordinator of the School Grant Program (SGP) at the Ministry, Emmanuel Diabolo, said a little over US$289,000 has been deposited in the accounts of 276 schools in Bong County to help in the operation of those institutions.

According to Diabolo, the money is being expended by authorities of the schools in consultation with community dwellers.

Schools that have already received include Bong Mines Elementary and Junior Central High School, Gorpu Dolo Boi Elem. & Jr. High School, Kollie-ta public school, Belefanai Community School and William R. Tolbert Public School.

Others are David Fejue Public School, G.W. Gibson Elem. Jr. & Sr. High School, E. J. Yancy High School, Martha Tubman School and Saysayla Public School, among others.

Diabolo said the Ministry of Education, through the School Grant Program (SGP), conducted trainings for school administrators and community residents in selecting priority projects that would enhance the smooth operation of the schools that will benefit from the grant.

He indicated that the ministry has also put in place the necessary mechanisms to curtail fraud in the management of the funds.
