Buchanan Marketers Crave For Garbage Site

By Johnson Liway, Grand Bassa County Correspondent

BUCHANAN, Feb 22 (LINA) – The Liberia Marketing Association Grand Bassa County branch is calling on the Buchanan City Council (BCC) to create a site for garbage disposal.

The LMA assistant Secretary General, Winston King, said the lack of a garbage disposal site is posing serious setback to the association and marketers.

He said that there have been series of communications from the LMA to the BCC, informing it of the need to locate a garbage disposal site, saying the LMA cannot comprehend the unnecessary delay by BCC authorities in this matter.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency Thursday, King said there are six market buildings in Buchanan headed by local superintendents, and in each political district in Grand Bassa County, all of which are controlled by the LMA Buchanan branch president.

Meanwhile, Mr. King has disclosed that the Central Bank of Liberia has given a 2.5 million Liberian dollars loan to marketers at a 3 Percent interest rate, payable in three years, something he described as commendable.

He said the loan is being managed by a six-man council.

He said there are about 2,890 registered marketers under the LMA Grand Bassa County branch, including those in the four districts of the county.

Mr. King is also calling on Government to assist the LMA Grand Bassa branch with a truck to collect and dispose of garbage.

When contacted, Buchanan City Mayor, Madam Mary Bono, confirmed the communication from the LMA, but said the Corporation is looking for a suitable site for garbage disposal.
