VOINJAMA, July 6 (LINA) –The National Disaster Relief Commission (NDRC) has ended a one-day disaster relief meeting aimed at reactivating the Lofa County Disaster Management Committee in Voinjama.
The NDRC was set up to address the impacts of disasters and vulnerabilities of counties prone to different hazards.
It is also putting into operation an effective comprehensive and sustainable disaster risk management program and emergency preparedness and response system at the community, district, county and national levels.
The objective of the disaster risk management program is to make communities and their assets more significantly resilient to the impacts of future disasters.
Speaking at the start of the meeting in Voinjama Monday, the National Technical Assistant for NDRC at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mr. Augustine Kollie, called on members of the committee to work in collaboration with Superintendent George Dunor in preventing future disasters in the county.
Superintendent Dunor then lauded the efforts of authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for setting up the committee and pledged his leadership’s support to future activities the committee may want to implement.
