PUL Suspends Member For Six Months
MONROVIA, July 2 (LINA) -The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has suspended the membership of journalist Rufus Paul for six months effective Wednesday, July 1, for organizing the fake award ceremony in the name of the Union on February 13 this year.
According to a PUL press release issued here, the decision was prompted by a recommendation from its Grievance and Ethics Committee which found Paul liable of ‘deception’ and bringing the Union’s name into public disrepute.
During the period of his suspension, Paul will not take part in any activity organized by the Union or enter the premises of the PUL, the release added.
Evidence adduced against Paul includes the souvenir program, T-Shirts and banners displayed at the event.
The release said the Union’s Executive Committee fully backs the Grievance and Ethics Committee’s recommendation, demanding that Paul writes and publish a letter of apology to the Union and its members.
The suspended journalist was also ordered to write a letter to the honoree in question to clarify that contrary to the wording on the souvenir and other materials, the award dished out to him was not a “PUL Prestigious Award” and that the Union was in no way connected to the occasion.
Mr. Paul’s suspension is in line with Article 29 of the PUL Code of Conduct and Ethics which recommends warning, fine, suspension and expulsion as penalties for unethical acts.
