Resettle Victims Of Ongoing Demolition In Karnplay -Gweh

By Wellington G Patrick, LINA Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, July 1 (LINA) – The City Mayor of Karnplay in Nimba County, Evelyn Gweh, is calling on the county’s authorities to resettle victims of an ongoing demolition exercise by the Project Management Committee (PMC) in an effort to rehabilitate major streets in the city.

On Tuesday, the PMC headed by the Assistant Superintendent for Development, D. Dorr Cooper, broke grounds to build 30 major streets in Karnplay to give the city a new look.

Mayor Gweh disclosed that the demolition exercise has affected 10 homes so far and is expected to target more than 200 houses in the city, noting that while it is true that citizens welcome the development, the city authority is more interested in the resettlement of its citizens.

The Karnplay City Mayor is therefore appealing to central government and its partners to intervene, adding that she foresees increased hunger and poverty and the reduction in school enrollment, if the victims are not resettled.
