MONROVIA, June 30 (LINA) – Health Minister Bernice Dahn has said the Ebola fight is not over and cautioned Liberians to continue practicing appropriate behavior to control the spread deadly virus.
The Minister’s statement comes against the backdrop of the death of a 17 year-old boy in Margibi County who was discovered positive of the Ebola viru
“We cannot do this without the participation and support of the communities,” she said on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information press conference in Monrovia.
According to Dahn, it is critical that Liberians remain vigilant and continue all preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus, adding “they must speak out, report and continue to keep sick people away from others and bury all dead bodies safely.”
“We know how Ebola is spread and we know how to stop Ebola, but we must remain watchful and work together,” she continued.
She encouraged everyone to keep doing things to safeguard their communities from Ebola by washing hands and calling community leaders when they notice someone is sick.
Although the Margibi situation is not what citizens were hoping for, “this incident demonstrates that our alert systems are working,” she pointed out.
Dahn noted that the Incident Management Team is working with partners to coordinate with the Margibi County Health Team for contact tracing, psychosocial support, community engagement and reactivation of the Ebola Treatment Unit in Margibi.
