Senator Taylor Donates To Barkedu Muslims, Mosque

By Ballah M. Kollie, LINA

MONROVIA, June 29 (LINA) – Bong County Senator Jewel Taylor has donated eight bags of 25kg rice, cash and several pieces of solar panel lights to fasting Muslims and the Barkedu Town Mosque in Quadu Gboni District in Lofa County.

During a visit she paid to the district at the weekend, she also consoled them for the loss of hundreds of their relatives to the deadly Ebola virus.

Senator Taylor described the deaths as irreparable, but stressed the need for citizens to forge ahead with the post-Ebola recovery plan. The Ebola epidemic claimed the lives of over 4,700 citizens in Liberia and nearly paralyzed the country’s economy.

The Bong County Senator made the presentation at the weekend during a visit she made to Lofa County.

Meanwhile, Senator Taylor has challenged Lofa women and members of the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) to believe in themselves, while collaborating with their male counterparts.

She praised the women for the level of commitment and courage they have demonstrated, adding, “You can achieve your optimum, especially when you believe in your power as women.”

Senator Taylor proffered the challenge at the weekend in Voinjama City, Lofa County when she was honored by members of the VSLA.

She noted that women of Liberia are capable of matching up with other women around the globe, if they make use of every opportunity that comes their way.

She then extolled the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Dr. J. Mills Jones, for initiating a microfinance program that is providing loans to over 30,000 women and men.

“This program is transforming the lives of Liberians and has the potential to take them from zero to heroes” she emphasized.

Conferring the honor on Senator Taylor, the VLSA head in Voinjama, Madam Garmai S. Gbusiwoi, said the honor was necessitated by the astute role played by Senator Taylor in the Senate, coupled with her quest to ensure the emancipation of Liberian women.
