Grand Kru Rep. Submits Road Bill For Enactment

By Richard Stephens, LINA

MONROVIA June26 (LINA) - Grand Kru County Representative Numene Bartekwa has submitted to the House Plenary a bill entitled ‘National Primary Road Development Act of 2015’ or enactment into law.

In a communication to House Speaker Alex Tyler, Representative Bartekwa said the bill is intended to provide an appropriate platform for the Government to address the current appalling deplorable state of national primary road networks in the country.

He observed that because the primary roads are not paved, government spends huge sums of money every year to repair them after the rainy season, noting that this also undermines the effectiveness of Government’s social service delivery and leads to a hike in the prices of basic commodities, especially in rural Liberia.

He also noted that the appalling nature of primary road networks seriously hampers internal travels and hinders legislators’ engagements in the various districts.

Bartekwa indicated that the bill will also help to provide the platform through which government will appropriate a specific amount every year in the national fiscal budget that will be used to pave not less than twenty miles of primary roads in the country.
