Official Confirms Closure of Public Health Centers in Bomi
By David Seedee, Bomi County Correspondent

TUBMANBURG, Feb 19 (LINA) - The County Health Officer of Bomi County Dr. Rhoda Peters, has confirmed the closure of public health facilities in the county.

Dr. Peters said this is due to the decision of public health workers assigned in the county to join the ongoing nation-wide strike action by public health workers.

Dr. Peters, however, said that medical doctors and some support staff assigned at the Government Hospital in Tubmanburg have put in place a management team to keep the hospital operational until the striking medical staff return to work.

She said similar management teams have been put in place at all health centers in the county and that Officers-in-Charge (OICs) have been instructed to refer critical medical cases to other hospitals.

Dr. Peters said patients that were hospitalized and able to walk have left the hospital, saying that no patients are being hospitalized at the moment.

Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency Tuesday in
Tubmanburg, Dr. Peters added that due to the shortage of manpower, all
surgical cases will be referred to other hospitals.

She hoped that the situation will be resolved quickly to save lives, adding, "our concern as doctors is to save lives."
