Liberia Supports All U. N. Endeavors - VP Boakai

MONROVIA,  June 26 (LINA) - “We are fit enough to be able to convey troops to distant lands as part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission,” Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has said, noting that the performance of Liberian troops in Mali is a testimony to this.

Vice President Boakai noted that the Mission in Mali of which Liberian troops are a part is a noble one authorized by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2100 of 2013.

“We should seize this opportunity to reaffirm Liberia’s strong support for the United Nations system in all its pursuits,” VP Boakai stressed.

According to a press release, the Vice President made the observation Thursday at the Roberts International Airport when he received a contingent of Liberian troops back home from Mali.

Earlier, a fresh platoon of Liberian soldiers took off for Mali, replacing those that were returning home.

He welcomed the troops on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who is Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

During a brief ceremony held at the airport, Vice President Boakai also inspected the troops.

He praised the men in arms, saying, “the Liberian people’s gratitude goes to you who are today in our warm embrace.”

“Your act demonstrate that Liberia has finally resumed her rightful position, not only as a charter member of the United Nations, but also as the oldest Republic on the African Continent,’ the release from the Office of the Vice President quoted him as saying.
