Samaritan's Purse To Upgrade Sanniquellie Airstrip
By Wellington Patrick, Nimba County Correspondent

SANNIQUELLIE, Feb 19 (LINA) -The Country Director of the faith-based international NGO, Samaritan's Purse, has disclosed that its Carolina office has approved the rehabilitation of the Sanniquellie Airstrip project.

Mr. Kendell Kaufeldt said the project is in fulfillment of the institution's pledge to assist the Liberian Government in its post-war reconstruction.

Country director Kaufeldt told reporters recently that the project was a commitment made by Rev. Franklin Graham, Chief Executive Officer of Samaritan's Purse, when he visited Liberia in 2008 and saw the need to establish an aviation program to help ease transportation constraints faced by the people.

When completed, the Sanniquellie airstrip is expected to contain water and sanitation facilities, a modern terminal, fenced in to curb intrusion.

According to Mr. Kaufeldt, the non-profit, faith-based institution pledged to provide airline technicians, engineers and airline equipment for the project.

Also speaking on the project at the weekend in Sanniquellie, Superintendent Christiana Dagadu said the county administration will provide manpower, earth moving equipment, surveyors and the current airspace for the project.

She said the cost of the project will be made known following completion of the survey.
