MONROVIA, Feb 19 (LINA) – Insurance executives have commended the Liberian Government’s decision to make compulsory the insurance of all vehicles that ply the roads Liberia.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency at his office on Tubman Boulevard on Monday, the General Manager of the Insurance Company of Africa, Mr. Samuel Mintah said he was happy that the government of Liberia has finally come to realize the importance of the compulsory insurance policy.
He said the Third Party Liability Insurance Policy will compensate passengers injured in a vehicle accident.
According to Mr. Mintah, this Third Party Insurance Policy was initiated by President William R. Tolbert in 1972, but for political reasons it was not implemented or enforced.
“That was forty two years ago; so we are very happy and grateful that it took so many years for the government to make compulsory the insuring of all vehicles that ply the roads of Liberia. Like they say it is better late than never,” he said.
The Chief Executive of SECURE-RISK Insurance Company and former senator of Lofa County, Daniel Naatehn thanked the government for making insurance compulsory in the country.
“This I believe is long overdue,” he added.
Naatehn said the insurance scheme would benefit vehicle owners, passengers and pedestrians in the event of an accident, removing the burden individuals have to bear in cases of mishap.
