VOINJAMA, June 11 (LINA) - Prominent citizens of Foya residing in Monrovia, including Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, have donated construction materials to victims of a rainstorm that destroyed over 250 homes in Foya, Lofa County.
The materials, which are valued at over US$11,000, include zincs, nails and planks.
Presenting the items to Statutory District Superintendent Tenese Farkonia in Foya City recently, Senator George Tengbeh said the donation was their initial contribution to the storm victims to help them urgently get back on their feet.
Tengbeh, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed sympathy to the victims for the devastating rainstorm that destroyed their houses.
Receiving the materials for distribution, Farkonia lauded the efforts of the donors, especially Vice President Boakai, and promised that the materials will be equally distributed among the affected people.
He attributed the devastating storm to the high level of deforestation being carried out by farmers and the continuous burning of charcoal by some individuals in the district.
It can be recalled that a rainstorm last month damaged at least 250 structures, including four schools, leaving hundreds of residents homeless.
