Gbarpolu County ETU Demolished
By Emmanuel Mondaye, LINA Gbarpolu County Correspondent
BOPOLU, June 4 (LINA) – The head of the Gbarpolu County Ebola Treatment Unit (ETU), Allen Shaic, has disclosed that his team has begun the demolition of the only ETU in the county.
Allen told LINA in Bopolu recently that besides the demolition of the ETU, the management team is also burning dozens of unused mattresses and other items that were kept in the unit to treat persons affected by the virus.
He however noted that since the ETU was constructed several months ago, it did not receive a single Ebola case.
Allen further disclosed that his team on Wednesday offloaded a truck full of plywood, planks and tarpaulins at the Bopolu Elementary School to be distributed among workers of the ETU.
However, the decision taken by Allen and the management team to burn items that were in the ETU has been sharply criticized by some citizens of the county who believe that the burnt materials should have been turned over to the County Health Team to be used to treat Tuberculosis and Leprosy patients.
When contacted, Allen denied that everything kept at the ETU were burnt, clarifying that only a few of the items were burnt and that the rest will be turned over to the County Health Team.
