Medica Mondiale Conducts SGBV Training For Medical, Legal Workers

By Chris Nyenapee, LINA Grand Gedeh County Correspondent

ZWEDRU, June 4 (LINA) - Medica Mondiale, a Sweden based international non-governmental organization, has ended a week-long training for medical and legal practitioners on the effects of sexual and gender based violence on women and girls in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Speaking at the close of the training workshop recently, Medica Mondiale Community Educators Shieda Kaba and Clavenda Sherman told LINA that the training was aimed at building the skills of magistrates, clerks of courts and health workers to enable them handle SGBV cases to protect the victims.

They however added that perpetrators can sue if they feel unfairly treated and lied on by victims, something which, they claimed,  many people have not taken advantage of due to ignorance; adding “This is important because it restores your character that has been tainted.”

The judicial workers came from all eight Magisterial Courts of the county and the 7th Judicial Circuit Court in Zwedru, while the clinicians were drawn from eleven health facilities, according to the facilitators.

Medica Mondiale has over the years conducted series of SGBV workshops for targeted groups beginning with general community health volunteers and traditional midwives drawn from twenty -wo communities in four districts of the county.
