By Richard D. Baysah, Margibi County Correspondent
KAKATA, June 2 (LINA)- The C. H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County lacks logistics, a situation which is impeding the smooth operation of the hospital, the hospital’s annual report has said.
The combined report on the status of the hospital for 2014- 2015 says the only referral hospital in Margibi County lacks adequate drugs, an ambulance, inadequate fuel supply, lack of space to accommodate more patients as well as utility vehicles, generator and trained staff.
According to the report, the two functional generators at the hospital have broken down, leaving the facility in darkness for the past two weeks.
The combined reports further indicated that the hospital currently lacks a physician assistant, laboratory technician and anesthetist.
He attributed this partly to the death of 14 of the 17 staff of the hospital to the Ebola disease.in 2014. He said the 14 staffers that died included nurses, lab technicians, X-ray technicians, nurse aids, securities, dispensers and an anesthetist.
The report said the situation heavily impacted service delivery at the hospital, causing panic amongst health workers, and even fear and misbelief on the part of patients and the public in general, resulting to the temporary closure of the hospital in August 2014 and its use instead as a holding center for Ebola cases.
The C.H. Rennie Memorial which was officially opened to the public in 1974, was named after a businessman, Charles Henry Rennie, (Uncle of the current Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting Corporation, Ledgehood Rennie), who provided the land for the construction of the hospital.
According to the report, common cases treated at the hospital l are malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, (STI), among others.
Margibi County Which gained county status in mid-1984 currently has a total population of 209,184.
