Attorney Mulbah Urges Officials To Support Agriculture

By Solomon N Giddings, LINA Bong County Correspondent

GBARNGA, June1 (LINA) - Montserrado County Attorney Darku Mulbah has underscored the need for government officials to get involved in agricultural activities if Liberia is to be self-sufficient in food production.

Mulbah said for a nation to become strong, it must be capable of feeding its people, and called on government officials to get involved in farming and other agricultural undertakings.

The Montserrado County Attorney made the call in Gbarnga over the weekend during the harvest of a fish pond that is owned and managed by Mrs. Estella Liberty.

He noted that though he is a legal practitioner, he is also involved with agriculture through fish farming as a means of contributing to food production in Liberia.

Responding, Mrs. Liberty called on Liberians and young women, especially high school and university students, to begin engaging into agriculture, as it is one of the surest and easiest ways of becoming independent and self-sufficiency.

She described agriculture as a “beckon of hope” that plays an essential role in the employment and feeding of citizens of any country.

Liberty disclosed to journalists at the program that she is supplying other local fish farmers across Bong County in order to empower them.

The harvest was graced by community members, local and national government officials as well as a representative of the Central Agricultural Research Institute.
