Fuel Shortage Triggers Price Hike in Margibi
By Richard Baysah, Margibi County Correspondent

KAKATA, Feb 17 (LINA) -The shortage of diesel fuel on the Liberian Market has triggered a hike in the price of the commodity in Margibi County.

During a market survey conducted by the Liberia News Agency in Kakata and Harbel at the weekend, it was observed that the price of diesel fuel has risen from 360 Liberian dollars to between 800 and 900 Liberian dollars per gallon.

Lack of diesel fuel to run generators have accordingly affected the operations of business entities in the County.

The country's two largest rubber plantations located in the county, Firestone Plantations Company and the Salala Rubber Corporation, have been constrained to slow the daily movements of their vehicles and earth-moving equipment, as well as their operations.

The situation is also affecting normal operations at the Roberts International Airport (R IA).

When contacted by the Liberia News Agency, the Senior Commerce Inspector of Margibi County, Varbah Dolleh, said vendors of the commodity were acting arbitrarily saying the Commerce Ministry has not notified him of any change in the price of diesel fuel, despite its shortage on the market.
