Gov’t Cannot Return To Days of Jungle Justice –V.P Boakai

By Robert Dixon, LINA

MONROVIA, May 29 (LINA) -Vice President Joseph N. Boakai says the national government cannot preside over a drift back into the days of “jungle justice and the survival of the fittest.’

According to Vice President Boakai, Liberia’s “bitter history should teach citizens that it is foolish to rely on violence to solve social problems.”

Boakai made the statement Friday at programs marking the Observance of the International Day of the United Nations Peacekeepers held at the Pan African Plaza in Monrovia.

The Liberian Vice President cautioned Liberians to take a firm stand against resorting to violence as a way of addressing grievances.

He said the Liberian people must demonstrate how grateful and blessed they are for the sacrifices that the world community through international peacekeepers made to save Liberia, adding, “They stabilized and propelled Liberia by lifting her onto the path of true nationhood.”

Ambassador Boakai assured the United Nations of Liberia’s cooperation in the calculated and scrupulous drawdown plan of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

“We reinforce our full assurance to the world body of Liberia’s continuing commitment to the ideals that occasioned the promulgation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1509 of September 2003, that engendered the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL),” Boakai  noted.
