Pres. Sirleaf Names Committee To Manage Waterways

By Robert Dixon

MONROVIA, Feb 17 (LINA) -President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has appointed `a five- man committee headed by the Commissioner of the Bureau of Maritime Affairs, Mr. Binyan Kesselly, to manage all waterways along the Mesurado River.

Other members of the committee are the Director General of the General Services (GSA) Madam Mary Broh; the Minister of Public Works, Dr. Antoinette Weeks and Montserrado County District Electoral #14 Representative Abraham V. Conneh.

She said the committee will ensure that people who own houses along the Mesurado River bank have toilets in their houses, adding that no one will be allowed to dump feces and other waste into the river.

According to the Liberia News Agency, President Sirleaf made the appointments at the weekend at a program marking the dedication of the Chevron Monrovia Central Park.

Speaking further, the Liberian leader disclosed that the Ma Juah Market will be transformed into a parking lot and that the market will be relocated to another area.

She lauded the Management and staff of Chevron Liberia and those that financed the Chevron Monrovia Central Park Playground, stressing that it will enable children to have a place of recreation in the city.

Earlier, Acting Monrovia City Mayor Clara Doe Mvogo lauded GSA Boss Mary Broh and all other former Monrovia City Mayors who initiated the construction of the Park for their far-sightedness, adding ‘this is the beginning of children playgrounds to be constructed by the Monrovia City Council.”
