Nimba Health Team Yearns For Ambulances

SANNIQUELLIE, May 24 (LINA) - The County Health Team (CHT) of Nimba says its referral system is likely to remain non-responsive to emergencies in the absence of at least six functional ambulances.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency LINA at his G.W Harley Hospital Office, the County Health Office, Dr. Collins Bowah called on government and its partners to intervene in resolving this problem that could make health services inaccessible.

Dr. Bowah revealed that Nimba County, which has six health districts with 64 functioning health facilities, runs on three ambulances, two of which have developed mechanical problems in about a month.

He described it as a barrier, adding that the referral scheme of the county health system needs six functional ambulances as a primary component of the health delivery system.

“With new ambulances we can make fastest our referral system, remain responsive and fight to save more lives, especially sick people residing in the most remote areas,” Dr. Bowah said.
