BUCHANAN, May 24 (LINA) – The Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, Etweeda A. Cooper has launched an appeal for assistance to over 50 victims of a storm which hit the Gorzohn Community in the early hours of Sunday, May.
Supt. Cooper said her appeal was directed at the national government, NGOs, humanitarian organizations, companies operating in the county, business houses, Muslim and Christian communities as well as individuals to quickly come to the
rescue of victims.
Madam Cooper made the appeal after a tour of the Gorzohn Community where the rainstorm left the victims with no shelter and food.
“It is saddening to see my citizens in distress after the storm that de-roofed over 50 houses in the Gorzohn community, and so we are doing everything possible to firstly find shelter and dry bedding for those affected,” Madam Cooper told the Liberian News Agency in an interview Sunday.
She said the county authorities convened an emergency meeting Sunday afternoon with the Disaster Committee to see what can be done urgently
to address the plight of the storm victims.
When contacted, the Chairman of Gorzohn Community, Elder John D. Paygar, said the main affected areas are parts of Water Tower and Key
Hole which fall in block ‘B’. Paygar explained that Gorzohn comprises three communities which include Water Tower, Key Hole and Crown Hill.
