MONROVIA, May 20 (LINA)  –The Deputy Program Manager of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Adolphus Clarke, has lauded supporters of the just-ended vaccination program across the 15 counties.

Speaking at the Ministry of Information press conference on Tuesday, Clarke said a total of 681,232 children out of the targeted number of 683,573 for the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) were vaccinated during the inoculation exercise which ran from May 8-14.

Clarke also disclosed that a total of 588,677 children out of the targeted number of 603,153 received the Measles Containing Vaccines (MCV), adding, “The vaccination program was able to achieve a percentage of 99.7 for OPV and 98 percent for the MCV vaccines.”

He pointed out that a total of 509,813 out of the total number 522,732 children received the de-worming component of the exercise, making the overall vaccination program “a success.”

“Even though we were faced with challenges of non-compliance in some communities, we had successes in the recent vaccination campaign with the support of partners, local leaders and the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Clarke said.

He added that in the just-ended immunization exercise, routine immunization services were provided in 517 health facilities across the country.

Clarke urged parents to always ensure that their children receive all of the basic vaccines that are required to protect a child against life threatening diseases.
