NCSO To Raise Funds For Storm Victims In River Gee

By Justice C Gaddeh, Intern

MONROVIA, May 4 (LINA) - The National Civil Society Organizations (NCSO)cbranch will on Thursday, May 7 conduct a mass parade to raise funds in support of victims of the recent storm in Chedepo Jarkaken, River Gee County.

Making the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency in a telephone interview Monday, CSO head Marcus S. Quenneh said the exercise will target businesses and residents in major cities across the county.

Quenneh said funds raised will be used mainly to buy food and other items for the victims.

“We have identified two basic needs of the victims since the April 19 storm which are food and shelter, but our organization will only be able to provide assistance to them in terms of food,” the CSO official said.

He, however, noted that the CSO will engage non-governmental groups, the county authorities and the Legislative Caucus to provide shelter for the over 100 affected household heads.

Meanwhile, the newly-elected Senator of River Gee County, Conmany B. Wesseh, has disclosed that a fact-finding team has been dispatched to assess the situation in the district for the intervention of his office.

On April 19, a heavy storm in Chedepo Jarkaken in River Gee County destroyed about 98 houses, leaving over 300 persons homeless and seriously wounding three others who are currently undergoing treatment at the Fishtown Referral Hospital.
