Tarpeh Discloses WASH Protocol In Schools

MONROVIA, April 29 (LINA) -The Ministry of Education has disclosed that a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) protocol has been developed in schools as part of its post-Ebola recovery activities.
According to Education Minister Etmonia Tarpeh, the protocol contains guidelines to ensure the implementation of WASH activities in all schools.
Speaking at the launch of ‘Liberia Wins WASH Program’ Wednesday in Monrovia, Tarpeh explained that the initiative was a result of effective collaboration between the Ministries of Education, Health and Public Works and partners.
She encouraged all education stakeholders, including education officers, principals, teachers, parents, communities and students to adhere to the protocol to ensure a safe, healthy and conducive school environment.
Tarpeh reiterated the ministry’s commitment to the fight against Ebola, recounting that during the Ebola outbreak, the ministry trained 6, 800 school administrators and teachers to conduct Ebola prevention awareness in all communities.
She stated that with support from partners, the ministry distributed several Ebola prevention materials, including buckets, thermo flash, boots, soap and chlorine, among others, to public and private schools prior to the resumption of academic
Meanwhile, the Education Minister has solicited the continued support of partners in order to improve the WASH program at schools.
