MONROVIA, Feb. 10 (LINA) -The Liberian Senate Committee on Health on Monday initiated public hearing on an Act to repeal Chapter 60 of the Executive Law creating the John F. Kennedy Medical Center.
The Act, which was submitted to the Liberian Senate in 2013 by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, seeks to replace the 1972 Act with a new Chapter 60 to be titled the John F. Kennedy Medical Center Act 2013.
It also seeks to strengthen the institutional structure of the J.F.K. Medical Center by including the Ministers of Justice and Education, a representative of Civil Society, and a representative of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce on its board.
According to the Liberia News Agency, if repealed by the Legislature, the administrative head of the JFK Medical Center would be changed from General Administrator to Chief Executive Officer.
Addressing the public hearing, Health and Social Welfare Minister, Dr. Walter Gwenigale, urged the Legislature to repeal the Act, as doing so will make the J.F.K. Medical Center more professional and effective.
