Cape Mount Citizens Want ‘Madina Contract’ Revisited
By D. Ignatius Roberts/LINA Gd. Cape Mount County Correspondent
ROBERTSPORT, April 24 (LINA) - Citizens of Grand Cape Mount County have appealed to the county leadership and Legislative Caucus to revisit the concession agreement signed between the Management of Madina Rock Crusher (MRC) and the Government of Liberia in 2004.
According to the Liberia News Agency correspondent in the county, the citizens made the statement in Damballa Town, Porkpa District at the County Council development meeting held recently.
They said the 2004 concession agreement does not carry social development obligation to the county, rather to Madina Town where the firm operates.
The citizens said the failure of the government to revisit the agreement could deny the citizens of the county several development opportunities.
According to the citizens, the social development funds from the company should benefit the county and not only Madina Town.
However, Superintendent Mohammed A. Paasewe has assured the citizens that his administration will work with the County Legislative Caucus to ensure the revalidation of the agreement to avoid confrontation between the company and the citizens.
Paasewe has also admonished the citizens to remain calm while the local authorities are doing everything possible to resolve the issue.
