Over 2000 Liberians Trained In China

MONROVIA, April 23 (LINA) - The Chinese Embassy near Monrovia has disclosed that China provided 187 Chinese Government Scholarships to Liberians in 201 and will provide 19 more scholarships in 2015.

A statement from the embassy Wednesday noted that China also provides about 200 short-term training program opportunities to Liberia each year, and has trained more than 2,000 Liberians up to now.

The statement released in Monrovia by the Chinese Embassy was delivered by Mr. Pang Hanzhao at the launch of the UNESCO-China Funds-in-Trust Project on “Enhancing Teacher Education For Bridging the Education Quality Gap in Africa” with A Focus on Enhancing Liberian Teacher Education Program Through Information Communication Technology Pedagogy.

Mr. Pang, who is Deputy Chief of Mission and Political Counselor, said China has been attaching great importance to bilateral cooperation in education with Liberia.

He said the Chinese Embassy and Chinese enterprises in Liberia also made great efforts in this field.

Chinese Embassy launched the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship in 2011 and provides 91 scholarships each year to students in three local universities, including the University of Liberia.

He also recalled that eight Chinese enterprises launched Chinese Enterprise Scholarship in 2012, providing more than 200 scholarships to nine Liberian Universities and Monrovia Vocational Training Center.

“In China, teachers are deemed as ‘architect of human soul’, and many people also prefer to nickname teachers as ‘gardeners’ because we believe all the students are like flowers who are the key to make the country more beautiful and prosperous,” he noted.
