WAEC Head Assures Liberia Will Fully Participate In WASSCE
By Calvin Brooks, LINA
MONROVIA, April 8 (LINA) -The Chairperson of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr. Evelyn Kandakai, has assured the participation of Liberia in the West African Senior School Certification Examination (WASSEC) will be strengthened.
Dr. Kandakai observed that Liberia is the only WAEC country that is not fully participating in the West African Senior School Certification Examination (WASSCE) due to the poor performance of Liberian students.
The WAEC official gave the assurance Wednesday in an interview with the Liberia News Agency on the margins of a Policy Dialogue on “Reaching the Middle Income Country Goal; the Human Capacity Issues” held at a local hotel in the Monrovia suburb of Sinkor.
She noted that the lack of priority for education in Liberia is hampering the development drive of the nation, noting that no country’s development can be achieved when the people do not prioritize education.
She stressed that students should pay attention to their studies rather than engage in activities that will not benefit them and the country, noting that Liberia is far behind other WAEC countries as a result of the civil war and Ebola crisis.
Dr. Kandakai emphasized that investing in education will transform the development drive of Liberia, adding that education is the bedrock of the socio-economic development of any nation.
