Mr. Mr. George Werner Minister of Education Appointed
Pres. Sirleaf Names New Education Minister, Reconstitutes MCSS Board
MONROVIA, April 8 (LINA) – President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has appointed Mr. Mr. George Werner as Minister of Education as part of new appointments in Government subject to confirmation by the Senate where applicable.
Also appointed at the Education Ministry are Mr. Aagon Tingba, Deputy Minister for Administration; Dr. Romelle A. Horton, Deputy Minister for Instruction; Mr. Gbovadeh Gbilia, Assistant Minister for Fiscal Affairs and Human Resource Development and Mr. Seklau Dukuly, Assistant Minister for Science, Technology, Vocational and Special Education.
Others are Mrs. Felicia Doe-Sumah, Assistant Minister, Basic and Secondary Education; Mr. Augustine Martin Kuleh, Asst. Minister for Student Personnel Services; Mrs. Yukhiko D’Lovette Amnon, Assistant Minister, Early Childhood Education and Mr. Advertus O. Wright, Assistant Minister for Teacher Education.
According to an Executive Mansion release the President has also reconstituted the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS) Board.
Those nominated are Mrs. Hester Williams Catakaw, Cllr. Rosemarie James, Mrs. Christine Norman, Ms. Alveria Morris-Raynes, Mr. Charles S. N’Tow, Ms. Hawa Norris, Mr. Emmanuel O. Kparh and Mother Mary N. Brownell, Advisor.
Additionally, the President has constituted the National Education Advisory Board which comprises five members of the County School Boards; Chairperson of the Monrovia Consolidated School System , President of the Principal Association of Liberia; and President of the National Teachers Association of Liberia.
Others are the President of the Parent Teacher Association of Liberia, Dr. Elizabeth Davis-Russell; Executive Secretary of the Association of Liberian Universities; One Representative of the Federation of Labor Union and the President of Liberian National Students Union.
Also on the board are one Representative from the Civil Service Association; one Representative from the Chamber of Commerce; one Representative from the Association of Private School Operators; National Head of the West Africa Examination Council and one Representative from the Technical and Vocational Education Training Institute.
Meanwhile President Sirleaf has named the following persons to the Paynesville City Council.
They are Mr. Abel Voker, Mr. Nowai Gorlorwulu, Mr. Massaquoi Kamara, Mr. James Davies, Ms. Alice Baysah, Mr. Formbah Trawally, Mrs. Lorpu Kandakai, Mrs. Zoe Baker and Ms. Cyvette Gibson.
An Executive Mansion release said the President, in order to ensure effectiveness in efforts to modernize the Liberia Airports, has dissolved the entire Liberia Airport Authority Board to be reconstituted in the shortest possible time.
The release said as Government works to achieve its goals over the remaining years of the administration, there is need for strategic changes in the administration.
It said the President, in so doing, has given due recognition and thanks to many who have been with and stood by the Government but who now require new challenges worthy of their skills.
“This means opportunity for others who would bring more dynamism and urgency to Government’s determination for more timely and effective implementation of these programs,” the release noted.
It said President Sirleaf is therefore asking for all Liberians continued trust and confidence to help as Government tackles the next challenges and embark on the difficult road for Post-Ebola Economic Recovery.
