VOINJAMA, April 7 (LINA) - The Resident Judge of the 10th Judicial Circuit Court in Lofa County, Nancy Finda Sammy, has sentenced a 70 year-old man to life imprisonment for statutory rape.

Amara Duannah was sentenced recently after he was found guilty for raping a 13 year -old girl who later died as a result of the incident, according to the Liberia News Agency.

The incident occurred in November 2014 in the Selega Road Community on the outskirt of Voinjama City, when the brother of the convict left his13 year- old daughter and two other children in the care of Duannah.

The court records revealed that the convict had sex with the victim on three different occasions while his brother was away on his usual commercial activities and threatened to kill the child if she told anyone about what had happened.

Records from the court further disclosed that the 70 year- old convict began to secretly treat the victim with herbs at his home instead of taking her to the hospital after she felt sick.
