Rep. Roland Launches US$5m Initiative for Maryland

By Calvin Brooks

MONROVIA, Feb 9 (LINA) – A US$5 million dollar development initiative for Electoral District Number Three in Maryland County has been launched in Monrovia by the district’s Representative Isaac B. Roland.

According to the Representative, the US$5M development initiative is intended to develop the education, health and agriculture sectors, as well as the construction of farm-to-market roads.

Representative Roland made the disclosure to the Liberia News Agency Saturday at a fundraising program under the theme: “The Wise Giving Initiative to Support Honorable Roland’s Five-year Development Initiative for Electoral District Number Three of Maryland County”.

He said the US$5M would be raised through each Liberian making a contribution of just US$1 towards the fund-raising program.

He stressed that if Liberians make US$1 available, it would help to jumpstart the implementation of the earmarked development projects in the county; that could spread across Liberia.

Rep. Roland lamented that the district lacked basic social facilities such as schools, clinics and markets and hoped that the development initiative over the next five years will contribute to the overall development of the area.

He disclosed that the initiative will also provide zinc roofs for over 1,000 houses and fund a microfinance program to empower the people economically in the two districts of Barrobo and Karluway.

Representative Roland urged Liberians and partners to contribute toward the district’s development initiative to transform the living conditions of the people of Barrobo and Karluway in Maryland County.
