VOINJAMA, Feb 9 (LINA) - Youth of Zorkpozo Village in Bondi Clan, Voinjama District in Lofa county have embarked on the construction of a Peace Hall at a cost of L$63,000.
When completed, the hall will host peace and village meetings as well as social and other important gatherings, according to the Chairman of the youths of Zorkpozo Village, Peter Sonnie.
He told the Liberia News Agency (LINA) at the weekend in Zorkporzo Village that the project is a self-help youth initiative aimed at promoting development in the area.
Mr. Sonnie also said money for the project was generated through youth communal farming project and other youth activities, to ensure that the dream of constructing a Peace Hall by the people of Zorkpozo Village becomes a reality.
He also disclosed that a former Lofa County representative aspirant, Anthony Sumo, donated several bags of cement as his personal contribution towards the self-help project.
Sonnie said because the villagers were finding it difficult to discuss important matters due to the lack of a hall, the youths decided to undertake the project.
In a related development, Mr. Sonnie is appealing to government to build farm-to-market roads in the area, to enable residents transport their goods to nearby markets to earn an income and enable the area gain access to basic social services which are lacking.
