KAKATA, March 25 (LINA) - Margibi County 13th Judicial Circuit Court Judge Mardea Tarr- Chenoweth has sentenced defendants Gayflor Beyan and Mark Varney to 25 and 50 years imprisonment respectively for Criminal Conspiracy and Murder.

Judge Chenoweth, in her final ruling Tuesday, said the decision was in keeping with a unanimous guilty verdict brought down by the 12-man jury and the evidence adduced by prosecutors during the trial.

The convicts, on September 8, 2012, conspired and murdered Emmanuel Cooper, a power-saw operator in Barmeni Kollie Town in Borlorla Township, Gibi District, Margibi County while coming from sawing timbers for the construction of a school in his town.

The case started on March 13, 2015 and after reading of the indictment to the defendants, Gayflor Beyan pleaded guilty while co-defendant Mark Varney pleaded not guilty.

The state was represented by acting County Attorney Isaac L. George, Jr., while the defendants were represented by Margibi County Public Defender, Attorney M. Klon Nyangbe.
