Senator Naatehn Wants Gov’t Equip Health Sector

By Ballah M. Kollie, LINA

MONROVIA, March 24 (LINA) - Gbarpolu County Senator Daniel F. Naatehn has emphasized the need for government to urgently equip the national health sector.

In a letter read at the 21st day sitting of the Senate Plenary Tuesday, Naatehn petitioned the Liberian Senate to prevail on the Executive Branch to prioritize acquisition of medical equipment and contracting of specialized doctors to operate said equipment.

“As we move towards the debate and passage of the 2015/2016 National Budget, I request very sincerely that the Senate impress upon the Executive Branch of government for the prioritization of  the purchase of some very important medical equipment and contracting of doctors to operate them,” Naatehn said in his communication to plenary.

Naatehn attributed the country’s high level of referral of cases to other countries to the lack of required equipment and doctors to effectively operate them.

The communication has, meanwhile, been sent to the Senate Committee on Gender, Health and Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs for review.
