CRC Postpones Youth Assembly

By Richard Stephens

MONROVIA, Feb 8 (LINA) -The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) says it has indefinitely postponed the assembly of youths and civil society organizations, scheduled for this month in the port city of Buchanan in Grand Bassa County.

According to the CRC Co-Chair on Civil Society Organizations and Community Outreach, Soko V. Sackor, as part of the Committee’s functions, it had earlier scheduled a meeting with various youth groups from around the country to meet in

Buchanan to give their inputs in the ongoing constitution review process.

He disclosed that the CRC would have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the meeting with all civil society organizations from around the country.

Mr. Sackor, however, told the Liberia News Agency in an interview Saturday that the postponement was necessary to prevent the institution being used for political purposes.

Sources close to the CRC informed LINA that the management took the decision to indefinitely suspend the meeting because the youth groups were planning to use the meeting as a political platform, something the source said was contrary to the guidelines under which the committee was established.

The Co-chair Sackor could not say the new date for the meeting.
